About Home Ground Habitats
Growing ecological awareness through native plants, education, and living landscapes in Marin.
Home Ground Habitats is a nonprofit, volunteer-powered educational center rooted in Marin County. We exist to promote habitat-focused landscaping and help our community cultivate sustainable, California-appropriate gardens that nurture biodiversity and ecological balance.

Charlotte Torgovitsky
Founder of Home Ground Habitats, Charlotte has long seen nature as both teacher and sanctuary. From foraging flowers with her grandmothers to cultivating diverse habitat gardens in Marin, her journey reflects a lifetime of learning from the living world — and inspiring others to restore biodiversity at home.
The Land at Indian Valley
Our nearly one-acre demonstration garden in Marin’s open hills — alive with native plants, pollinator pathways, edible landscapes, and pesticide-free stewardship.
Growing More Than Gardens
Board members, educators, and volunteers working together to promote habitat restoration and sustainable landscaping.
Every plant we nurture supports a web of life. Every class, volunteer hour, and restored landscape strengthens the connection between people and place.
